Welcome to Mr. Auad's Teacher Page

Hello!  Hope everyone is doing well!  Just wanted to make note about the lessons linked below.  Kindergarten students will know how to complete the writing portion of the writing lessons (by sounding out and writing words and sentences).  TK students can tell their care giver their stories and ideas, and can have help with writing their words.  Help them by sounding out simple, three letter words.  Making sure they pay close attention to the beginning letter sound.  Spelling does not need to be correct, as long as they write the sounds that they hear.

If you did not receive a 'Interactive Math Homework Book' during conferences, they will be available for pickup tomorrow, Thursday, 3/19, between 10:00-12:00.

Please stay well, and I miss you all!

Hi! My name is Christopher Auad. This will be my 20th year teaching Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten at Corvallis Elementary. In fact, I am one of the inaugural TK teachers since the program’s inception. I believe that TK/Kindergarten is one of the most important grades, as it lays a foundation for students to succeed.

Hello Room 16 Students and Families!

Thanks to all of you for joining me in our class ZOOM get together yesterday.  It was nice to see all of you!  We have another meeting coming up this Friday, April 10 at 10:00 am.  I would like to hold 2 meetings a week.  I was excited to try a short lesson, and appreciated the students participation and patience as we become increasingly comfortable with this new way of learning.  Here are some tips for a successful ZOOM class meeting:

  1. Find a comfortable place to sit, like a kitchen table, or computer desk.
  2. Make sure your audio and video are working.
  3. I encourage you to participate, raise your hand and share your thoughts and ideas.
Thank you to all the parents sending pictures of your children's work.  I really do appreciate seeing what they are working on!

Two video posts today and a link too today's Corvallis Morning Assembly.  I have a new story that I will hope the students will enjoy; "Papa, Please Get the Moon For Me" by Eric Carle.  The second video is the third video of the game, "What Picture is Next".  Can you guess what the spelling pattern is in this lesson?  Remember to check out my fellow Kindergarten teachers' webpages for additional ideas.

Please do not forget to check your email for the information on how to join our next ZOOM meeting.

Have a nice Thursday!

Writers Workshop Lesson #3-Adding Pages To Your Story

In todays lesson I will demonstrate how to add pages to the story you started on Monday. Make sure the pages you add stay on topic. A reminder that every sentence starts with an upper case letter and end with punctuation. I look forward to seeing your stories!

Wednesday, April 8 Post

Hello Room 16 Students and Families!

Depending on when you read this, I look forward too, or had a nice time, seeing you during our ZOOM get together today!  I will be hosting another ZOOM meeting this upcoming Friday, April 10 at 10:00 am.  Please check your email for the ZOOM meeting ID and Password you will need to enter this meeting.  Hope you can join us!

Two video posts again today.  There is no story, as I will be reading a story during our ZOOM session.  The "What Picture is Next" lesson is going to connect with the lesson we completed today during our ZOOM meeting.  You can also watch the third part of our Writers Workshop lessons where I demonstrate how to add pages to your story.

A reminder that TK/Kindergarten students are expected to do 1 hour of work a day, but can do more if they want!

Wishing you a nice Wednesday!

Tuesday, April 7 Post

Hello Room 16 Students and Families!

I hope you all have received the invite for our next ZOOM get together.  It is scheduled for this Wednesday, April 8 at 10:00am.  Your email should include the meeting ID and Password.  I hope you can join us!  If you like to plan ahead, we will also be having a second ZOOM meeting this week on Friday, April 10 at 10:00.  I will send the invite as we get closer to the date.  Going forward, I would like to hold two ZOOM get togethers a week on these days and times.

There are two videos posts today, and in a change in format, they are located under this post.  There is no story today, as I wanted to post an extra lesson.  This lesson is called, "What Picture is Next" and is interactive with the students.  Before you begin, students will need a paper and pencil/pen to complete the activity.  Students should be familiar with this lesson, as we use to complete it in class.  Have fun with it!  The second post, is the next part in the series of lessons on how to complete Writers Workshop.  I am hoping you can continue the writing you started yesterday.

I wanted to call your attention to the link I talked about last week called, "Scholastic Learn at Home".  Mrs. Penaranda found this link, and I am reposting it above this post.  Once you click on it, you will notice that under the header picture that there are different weeks you can click on.  I would pick a week, and start looking at the stories that might interest you.  They have little books where students can practice their reading skills.  I also wanted to mention Mrs. Penaranda's post yesterday where she had an excellent idea on writing a poem about the rain, please feel free to check it out.

Wishing you a nice Tuesday, and stay safe!

"What Picture is Next" Lesson #1

Students will need a paper and pencil/pen BEFORE beginning the video. This is an interactive lesson that we use to complete in class. Hope they enjoy!

Writers Workshop Lesson #2-Sentence Planning and Structure

Day 2 on our series of lessons on Writers Workshop. Today we focus on how to plan the sentences that we want to write, and sentence structure. Remembering to start all sentences with an upper case letter and end every sentence with punctuation. Hope you can continue your writing that you started yesterday!

Writers Workshop Lesson #1-Planning and Labeling

This is the first lesson on a series of lessons on how to complete Writers Workshop. I encourage the students today to draw a picture of something they did this weekend and label it. Remember to focus on one word at a time, listening to the beginning, middle and ending sounds.

The Pigeon Needs a Bath!

Do you think the Pigeon Needs a Bath! I would love to see what you think! Hope you enjoy the story, and thanks for watching!

Monday, April 6 Post

Hello Room 16 Students and Families!

It's Monday, and welcome back!  I have two video posts for you today.  A Pigeon story by Mo Willems and the first part of a series of lessons on how to complete Writers Workshop.  Lately, I have begun to have difficulty uploading the videos, where it has taken me numerous tries (and time) to upload 1 video.  I am trying to find a way around this.  Right now I am trying to make shorter videos, and break them into parts.  I will continue to look for ways to post the videos successfully.

Check your emails today for the invitation to the next ZOOM meeting this upcoming Wednesday, April 8 at 10:00!  We had a great turnout for our first meeting!  At this class get together, I am hoping to read a story and teach a quick lesson.

I recommend checking out two different classroom pages today.  Mrs. Stevenson (school librarian) has posted links too many read aloud stories I believe the students will enjoy.  To find her classroom page, go to the staff directory page, scroll to the bottom, and click on Mrs. Stevenson.  I would also recommend looking at Mrs. Hynds' classroom page today, as she has a few worksheets that can be downloaded and printed out.

Wishing you a nice Monday!
