Welcome to Mr. Auad's Teacher Page

Hello!  Hope everyone is doing well!  Just wanted to make note about the lessons linked below.  Kindergarten students will know how to complete the writing portion of the writing lessons (by sounding out and writing words and sentences).  TK students can tell their care giver their stories and ideas, and can have help with writing their words.  Help them by sounding out simple, three letter words.  Making sure they pay close attention to the beginning letter sound.  Spelling does not need to be correct, as long as they write the sounds that they hear.

If you did not receive a 'Interactive Math Homework Book' during conferences, they will be available for pickup tomorrow, Thursday, 3/19, between 10:00-12:00.

Please stay well, and I miss you all!
Distance Learning

Hi! My name is Christopher Auad. This will be my 20th year teaching Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten at Corvallis Elementary. In fact, I am one of the inaugural TK teachers since the program’s inception. I believe that TK/Kindergarten is one of the most important grades, as it lays a foundation for students to succeed.

Inspired by
I particularly enjoy seeing former students when they come back for a visit, and hearing about the successes they have had. In class, it inspires me to see the joy and engagement of the children when being read their favorite stories.

Hello Room 16 Students and Families!

I hope you are all doing well this Thursday!  I just want to let you know, if you ever have any questions please feel free to contact me by email.  There are times where I will call you, sometimes just to check in and say hi!  If I do call, you will most likely see No Caller Id on your caller Id.  I will always leave a message if I do not reach you.

I wanted to announce that the TK/Kindergarten teachers are working as a team.  You are more than welcome to visit the classroom pages of Mrs. Penaranda and Mrs. Hynds.  We want to share with you as many activities as we can.  All the TK/K teachers have the same distance learning packet, but we post different mini-lessons that you may find useful.  So please give them a visit!

Today's video is about a lesson that we do in class that can be done at home.  There is even an appearance from a special guest that use to be in our classroom.  Tomorrows video post will likely be a story, as I had many responses from parents saying how much they enjoyed that.  Thank You!

Dinosaur Vs. Bedtime by Bob Shea

Hope you enjoyed the story! At the end of the story I asked a few interesting questions. You can answer these questions during your writing lesson for the day. TK students, feel free to draw a picture of something new the Dinosaur could do before bedtime. You can make your dinosaur look anyway you want! As always, if you have the time, feel free to send me a picture! I hope in tomorrow's video post to share out a few acknowledgments of the excellent work I have seen from the students! And Please don't forget to respond to my "Corvallis Survey Email"!

Wednesday, March 25 Post

Hi Room 16 Students and Families!

Hope you are all doing well!  A shorter post today as I am hoping to post a special video very soon.  Yesterday, I noticed we had some rain, fog, and hail where I live, that might be something interesting for you to record on your weather chart.

PARENTS: I NEED YOUR HELP!

So far, I have only received four responses to my Corvallis Survey email.  I could really use your help in completing this survey so I can alert the district on what you may need.  If I have the time, I may be calling parents to follow up.  Whenever I call a family you will see "No Caller ID" on your phone.

As always, please subscribe to the class webpage if you have not already done so.  It is the best way not to miss out on any important announcements and lessons.

Yesterday, I promised a word game to practice with your student.  I am going to delay that for a day, as I would like students to watch the video I will post.

Stay safe and miss you all!

IMPORTANT SURVEY REMINDER

A reminder that if you have not already done so, to please check your email for an email I sent titled, "Corvallis Survey".  Please complete this survey (it should take just a couple minutes) and send it back to me preferably by Wednesday evening (March 25).  By completing this survey, the District can understand what needs you may have when it comes to distance learning, and may be able to offer you support.  I really appreciate you taking the time to do this!

Hi Everybody!

Here it is, my first video post! I must admit, I felt very awkward making this. Hopefully over time, it will become easier! I will try to post a story tomorrow, so check back then. -Mr. Auad

Tuesday, March 24 Post

Hello Room 16 Students and Families!

Happy Tuesday to you all.  I would like to begin with some news before we get to today's math mini-lesson.  You will all be receiving an email from me today with the subject line, 'Corvallis Survey'.  It is important to complete this 3 to 4 question survey as soon as possible as I need to report back the results by Thursday morning.  This survey should just take a few minutes to complete, and will better help us serve you going forward.  So, Thank You in advance!  Another thank you to all the families who have subscribed to the classroom webpage.  We are up to 10 families, only 10 more to go!  I love the pictures you are all sending me, I am very proud of all of you!  I try to respond to each picture sent, so keep sending them my way!  Also, check this page later this morning, I am going to try to post my first video saying hi to the students.  If this works, I hope to start a story time that the students can watch.  Now on to today's mini-lesson.

BOX GAME

Like the previous lessons, this lesson is one we have completed in class and students should be familiar with.  It is called box game, and this is how to complete it:

You will need: -paper
                       -pencil/marker
-cereal pieces or coins for counting

1.  on a paper, draw a large rectangle box the size of the paper
2.  tell the student a number between 0-30
3.  the student then should count out loud, and put the cereal/coins in the box.                              stopping at the number you told them
4.  they can then write the number on a separate piece of paper
5.  repeat these steps

I wish you all a nice Tuesday, and stay safe.  Come back tomorrow for a popular word game that we would complete in class!

Monday, March 23 Post

Good Morning Room 16 Students and Families!

Happy Monday to you all, and I hope you are all doing well.  First off, thank you to all who have subscribed to the classroom page (subscribe button is under my picture), I am hoping that you are being notified when I post.  If you have not yet responded to the email I sent you last week, I ask that you please do so at your earliest convenience.  This way I can send you personalized tips and suggestions on how to help your child.  I also need to keep record of who I have been in contact with.  If you did not receive an email from me, I ask that you email me at [email protected] so I have your most current email.  Now on to today's lesson.

I thought for today's writing lesson, students could focus on what they did this past weekend.  A few ideas to get them started are; writing about a game they played, what they had for dinner, or something they made.  Remember to draw a picture, label the picture, and have them try to write down the sounds they hear in words and sentences.  Parents, it is ok to help (I encourage it), and spelling does not need to be perfect.  If you would like, take a picture of the writing and include it in an email to me.  I would be nice to see them!

Now for that special link I promised on Friday.  The students love the books written and illustrated by Mo Willems (Piggie & Gerald, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus).  He has started a series of videos on YouTube called: Lunch Time Doodles with Mo Willems!  They are approximately 30 minutes in length.  They may be a bit long for the little ones, but towards the end of the first few videos, Mo Willems will demonstrate how to draw one of his popular characters step by step, so have a paper and markers ready!  I would start with the video titled, 'Announcing: Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems' on YouTube.  The following videos are then numbered.  I will try to include a link in another post, but you can always search for 'Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems' on YouTube.  I hope the students find these videos entertaining, and as always, if you like, take a picture of your child's drawing and send it to me.

Tomorrow I will be sharing with you a math mini-lesson.  Please always check your email, as I will be emailing families throughout the week.  Until tomorrow morning, have a good day, and stay safe!

Friday, March 20 Post

Hello Room 16, and happy Friday!

In today's post I will be sharing a mini-lesson that you can complete at home, and explaining our new routine.

The mini lesson is called 'Daily Message'.  The students have done this lesson in class and I demonstrated it at Back To School Night.  In fact, I will be demonstrating many of those quick mini lessons I shared at Back To School night over the next few weeks.  So here we go:

Daily Message:

1. Write 2 or 3 sentences on a piece of paper.  Try to make the sentences simple, so the students can try to read them independently. For example:

Today is Friday.
I see the sun and clouds.
Do you like it hot or cold?

2.  After reading the sentences, ask children to circle certain letters, words, and sounds with a pencil or marker.  For example:

Circle a lower case 'h'
Circle the letter that makes the 's' sounds (please make the 's' sound)
Circle the word 'it'
Circle the period, and tell me what a period tells you to do.
Point to the spaces between the words.
Count the words in the second sentence
How many letters are in the word 'Today'

These are just a few examples of questions you can ask.  Please feel free to adapt this in anyway.  Make the sentences and questions harder if you would like.

Now on to some news.  I sent a check-in email to half the class yesterday.  If you have not received your check-in email, look for it this morning.  I appreciate all who have responded, and the nice things you have had to say!  It means a lot to me!  Please, if you have not done so already, click the subscribe button under my picture.  I have been told that if you do, you will be automatically notified when I post something new.

As we get used to this new routine, my goal is to post a new message each morning, even if it is just to say hi!  You can also be flexible with the daily schedule posted in the distance learning link.  If you see your child becoming not interested, change up the schedule.  I always ask them to try their best, but lessons do not need to be perfect.

Wishing you all a nice weekend, stay safe, and miss you all!

P.S. Please return on Monday, I have an exciting link to share that I think the students will enjoy!

3/19/2020 post

Hi Room 16 Families and Students!

Hope you all are doing well.  I just wanted to take  moment to check in.  If you have not accessed the distance learning lessons, there is a link above to print out the daily schedule and materials for the first few weeks.  The school will also be open today, Thursday, 3/19, between 10:00 and 12:00, if you feel the need to pick up any of these items.  Please see the note I included on top of this page for some helpful tips on how to complete the writing lessons.

I ask if you are visiting this classroom page to please click the 'subscribe' button under my picture.  It will automatically let you know when I post updates.  I will be posting small activities that you can complete with your child throughout the weeks we are not in school.

Lastly, I will be reaching out by email to check on everyone in the next few days.  Please look for an email that contains my school email address.  In the subject line I will write, 'This is Mr. Auad', so you know it is from me.  I will be using the email you provided to school when you registered, you may receive multiple emails if you registered multiple email addresses (I'll try to pick the one you use most frequently).  Please respond to the email so I know that this is an email you use, and a way I can make contact with you.

Thanks again, stay safe, and miss you all!
