Thursday, May 28 Post

Hello Room 16 Students and Families!

I have an important announcement to make today.  Tomorrow will be our last classroom Zoom get together, and I would like to acknowledge our Kindergarten students moving onto First Grade.  In that spirit, I…

Cordially invite all Room 16 Students and Families to attend our last classroom Zoom meeting on Friday, May 28th at 10:00 am.  We will recognize each Kindergarten student as they move on to First Grade!  We will also recognize the TK students as a group as they move onto Kindergarten!

I will be presenting your Kindergarten certificate virtually.  Please feel free to make it a fancy occasion.  I will have my tie and shirt on!

This morning I have a meeting where I hope to gain greater clarification on the date and time when we will be passing out the student’s work.  I will post the information in Friday's daily blog.  As we get closer to the date, I will be sending out an email to families explaining how we will be handling end of year procedures in greater detail.

Two videos today.  Our last addition practice video, where I increased the difficulty slightly.  After watching the video, please complete the 5 addition story problems below.  Make sure you show your work by drawing the circles, and joining them together.  The story today is a class favorite, ‘Pete the Cat and the Five Little Ducks’ by James Dean.  Make sure you watch to the end for the daily writing prompt!

Today is Thursday!  Before distance learning began, the class would always visit Mrs. Stevenson in the Corvallis Library on this day.  Why don’t you check out her Corvallis Library webpage, and listen to a story she has read.  It will be just like when we were at school.  You can find a link to her library page under the Resource Topic in the Google Classroom.

Today is also the day Mo Willems adds a video to his Thankful Thursday YouTube series.  I wonder who he is thanking today?  Episode 4 will be his most recent episode posted today.  A link is provided in the Google Classroom.

Please complete after watching the video: Addition Lesson #3

Tuesday, May 26 Post

Hello Room 16 Students and Families!

Welcome back, and happy Tuesday!  We start with some important news.  This week is tentatively scheduled to be the last week of instruction (I will still post a blog keeping you informed of important information), as teachers are going to be allowed back into the classroom starting next Monday, June 1.  This will give me time to start gathering and organizing student projects that have been saved in the classroom since mid-March.  Families will be given a day and time to pick up their children's work, by driving through the school loop and being handed their projects.  I will let you know what time we are scheduled for as soon as I find out, and the time is confirmed.  It also looks like this week will be our last Zoom meetings as well, so I hope you can join us!

Two videos today.  This week we begin a series of lessons on addition.  Before we began distance learning, Kindergarten students were working on completing addition problems.  I thought it would be good to review what we have learned, and introduce TK students to addition.  Our story today is a classic, 'Caps For Sale' by Esphyr Slobodkina.  Make sure you watch to the end for the writing prompt.

Also, a very cool link discovered by Mrs. Penaranda about the East Bay Regional Park system.  After clicking the link, make sure to scroll down for many fun and interesting science videos.  I hope you check it out!  I will also post the link in the Google classroom.

Families, please check your email today for the information on how to join our Wednesday, May 27 Zoom get together.

As always, thank you for all you do to help your child with distance learning.  I really appreciate it, and could not do it without you.

Today's Goals

1. watch the story and complete the writing prompt
2. watch the addition video
3. practice counting 100 by ones and tens. you can count with me by watching the video titled, 'Counting Practice' under the Math Basics topic
4. check out the East Bay Regional Parks link, and watch a couple of the videos
5. spend some time with the Raz-Kids reading program
6. spend some time with the Happy Numbers program
7. stay cool!

Hope you all have a nice day!

Join me as we learn the basic concepts of addition. We learn what the plus sign stands for, and what the answer in an addition problem is called. A good review for Kindergarten students, and a good introduction to addition for TK students. Thanks for watching!

Caps For Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina

A classic story of a peddler who is trying to sell the many caps balanced on top of his head. One day, he decides to take a nap, and when he wakes up, all of his caps are gone! Watch to find out what happened to his caps. Your writing prompt today is: Which cap would you buy from the peddler and why. Don't forget to draw a picture of yourself wearing the cap! Enjoy!
