Meet the Principal

Hello Corvallis Community,

I am excited to be the new principal of Corvallis Elementary, Melynda Piezas. I have previously worked for 13 years in the West Contra Costa Unified School District as a
principal and elementary school teacher.

My first days, weeks and months will be spent getting to know the staff, students and of course the wonderful community of Corvallis. I bring with me years of teaching experience in grades kindergarten to sixth. For the past four years, I have been leading Dover Elementary in San Pablo as principal.

My educational passion is literacy. I borrowed a saying from another administrator.
“Reading is a civil right.” With literacy other learning is made less difficult.
Growth and progress are my indicators of success. I believe as long as we keep trying
we will get there and learn many things along the way. One of my favorite parts of
being a principal is getting to show recognition to students who have worked hard
toward their goals.

I value honesty and kindness. I believe every person has a story and should be treated
with respect. Students are my priority, and I will work to give them the best education
and school climate possible.

Please keep an eye out for opportunities to meet. Providing COVID allows, we will have
an in-person meet and greet. I will also set up Zoom sessions for those who are unable
to make the in-person meetings. Every voice deserves to be heard.

I look forward to our partnership in continuing to develop an amazing place for our
students to learn and grow.
