I’ve been a teacher for twenty three years and I love teaching kindergarten. I enjoy spending time with my children and grandchildren, walking my dog Fergie, reading, and being outdoors.

I went to Stirling University in Scotland. I got my teaching credential at Cal State East Bay.

Morning Message 5-29-2020

Good Morning Room 18 Readers and Families,

Today is Friday May 29th and it is another sunny day. This is our last day of distance learning, but not our last day of learning. I encourage you to continue to use raz kids and Happy Numbers for as long as they are available over the summer. Practice writing every day and continue to work on your math skills. First grade will be here before too long.

I hope you can make it to our last zoom meeting today at 10. I will read a story. We can share and say goodbye to each other for the summer.

Next week I will be in the classroom packing up your items to pass out on Thursday, June 4th from 8:30 til 11:30 a.m. Items will be passed out in the loop so look for directions from Mr. Dunn-Ruiz.

I encourage you to check out this web page from time to time going forward.

Morning Message 5-28-2020

Good Morning Room 18 Readers and Families,

Today is Thursday May 28th. It is another sunny day. Last night I went for a walk at 8pm, but it was still hot!

Today I have a staff meeting with Mr. Dunn-Ruiz and the other Corvallis teachers. I will let your families know what I find out about how we will be handing things back to your families and about how you can return your library books.

Here are the guidelines for today.

  1. Listen to the story Rosie’s walk in google classroom. Think about all of the direction words you hear.
  2. Write about a pretend walk around our classroom or around the neighborhood and use the direction words. In the story, Rosie’s walk, Rosie goes across, over, past, through and under different things on her walk. Here is an example- I went for a walk in room 18. I walked over the rug and across the floor. I walked past_ …etc. Draw a picture and share your writing with me.
  3. Read on raz kids/read to self.
  4. Work in Happy numbers or do a couple of pages in your math book.
  5. Exercise and play.

Morning Message 5-27-2020

Good Morning Room 18 Readers and Families,

Today is Wednesday May 27th. The sun is shining where I live. Yesterday was an extremely hot day, too hot to go for a walk.

I hope  that you are able to make it to the school assembly this morning as it will be the last one for this school year. Also, we have our class zoom meeting at 10. I hope you can make that too.

I want to thank you all for your patience and support during this time of distance learning. It would not have been possible without your support.

  1. Listen to the little Red Hen in google classroom.
  2. Write about this story. Give your opinion. If you were the Little Red Hen would you share the bread with your friends? Why? Why not? Share your writing with me.
  3. Read with Raz kids.

  5. Exercise and play.
  6. Join our class zoom meeting.

Morning Message 5-26-2020

Good Morning Room 18 Readers and Families,

Today is Tuesday ,May 26th.Welcome back from our three day weekend. I hope you were able to have some fun with your family. It was a very hot weekend.

This may be our last week of distance learning as next week teachers get to go into their classrooms and put all of your work together for you to collect. I have your art projects which would normally have been handed out at Open House. I will keep you informed as to when you can pick these up, but it appears that they will be passed out in the Corvallis loop.

I will be posting a link for East Bay Regional parks in the google classroom which Mrs. Penaranda shared with us.

I hope you can join us for our class zoom meeting on Wednesday at 10 and for the Wednesday morning assembly at 9 which will be the last morning assembly for this school year.

Here are the guidelines for today.

1.Read with raz kids/read to self.

2.Listen to a read aloud in google classroom.

  1. Write about what you did over the weekend. Write as many sentences as you can and label your drawing. Please share with me if you can.

4.Check out the link to East bay Parks.

  1. Work in your math book or in Happy Numbers.

Morning Message 5-22-2020

Good Morning Room 18 Readers and Families,

Today is Friday May 22nd. It is another sunny day where I live. We have made it through another week! Monday is a holiday called Memorial Day. We remember and honor the military personnel who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Remember , when we see a red, white, and blue flag with stars on it, it’s a symbol of our country, the United States of America. We are describing the flag.

We will have our class zoom meeting today and then there will be two more class meetings. Teachers are waiting for directions as to how to go about giving you your work from class back. I have  your art projects as we didn’t get to have Open House. I will keep you posted. Mr. Dunn-Ruiz  referenced this during the Wednesday morning assembly.

Here are the guidelines for today.

  1. Join our zoom meeting at 10.Remember to bring your stuffed animal if you can.
  2. Read in Raz kids/read to self
  3. Work in math book or on happy numbers.
  4. Write about a stuffed animal or a toy you have, Draw a picture and label it. Describe your animal/toy. Tell me what color it is, what’s its name. Is it soft or hard. Why do you like it so much?
  5. Exercise and play.
  6. Listen to a read aloud in google classroom and check out seesaw kids and mystery science.

Good Morning Room 18 Readers and Families,

Today is Thursday May 21st. The sun is shining where I live and I’m sure it is shining where you live too. It’s hard to believe that the month of May is almost over. Thank you to everyone for trying your best during these difficult times. I hope you liked the song that the teachers put together and that was shared during the morning assembly. We all wish we could be back in the classroom with you!

Here are the guidelines for today.

1.Raz kids/read to self if you have books at home.

  1. Listen to My Friend Rabbit in google drive. For writing, write about what you like to do with your friends. Draw and label your picture. Share it with me if you can.

3.Science-Where does your shadow go. Listen to this story too.

  1. Math -Happy Numbers or work in your math book.
  2. Exercise with go noodle on safe you tube and have fun playing with your toys.

I hope to see you at Tomorrow’s zoom meeting. Remember to bring your favorite stuffed animal and to be ready to describe it for me. Don’t worry if you don’t one though. You can bring any toy you want to share.

Today is Wednesday May 20th. It is sunny where I live. We need the rain, but the sunshine feels good.

Yesterday I put a video in google classroom for you to look at and a mystery science activity about shadows.

 I hope you can make it to the Wednesday morning assembly and to the class zoom meeting too.

  2. Listen to the story Too Much Noise in google classroom.
  3. Who is your favorite Disney character or super hero and why.
  4. Math- work in Happy Numbers or in your math book.

Morning Message 5-19-2020

Good Morning Room 18 Readers and Families,

Today is Tuesday, May 19th. It’s cooler today where I live, but the sun is out. Today I will be sending out the invitation for Wednesday’s zoom meeting. I hope you will be able to attend.

So many of you have been reading books in raz kids and that’s great! It’s important to keep up with our reading.

Here are the guidelines for today.

  1. Listen to the story Bootsie Barker Bites in google classroom. For writing tell me what your opinion of Bootsie Barker is? Do you think she would be a good friend? Why/why not?
  2. Read some books in raz kids. If you can record yourself reading, that would be great. I would love to hear you read. Don’t forget to try some quizzes and to read my comments.
  3. Work in your math book and or work on Happy Numbers.
  4. Try to exercise with go noodle and take sometime to play.

Morning Message 5-18-2020

Good Morning Room 18 Readers and Families,

Today is Monday, May 18th. It rained where I live over the weekend, but today it is sunny. I hope you had a good weekend with your family!

Later  today or tomorrow, I will be sending out the invite for our Wednesday class zoom meeting.  I hope you can make it. Also, II hope you can make it to the school wide assembly on Wednesday as I’m sure Mr. Dunn-Ruiz will be sharing a video with you.

I have put some more read alouds in the google classroom.

Here are the guidelines for today.

  1. Listen to the read a loud Puddles. Write about your opinion. Do you like the rain? Why or why not? Why do we need the rain? What does it provide for us? Draw and Label a picture to go with your writing. Share it with me if you can.
  2. Read to self/raz kids
  3. Math- work in your math workbooks or do Happy numbers.
  4. Play and exercise.

Morning Message 5-15-2020

Good Morning Room 18 Readers and Families,

Today is Friday, May 15th. It’s another sunny day. I woke up this morning and heard that there was an earthquake on the California/Nevada border. I didn’t feel anything. Did you?

I have sent out invitations for today’s zoom meeting and I was able to change the password to hopefully make it easier for people to join. Mrs. Penaranda shared a tip that she had discovered. I hope you can make it to our zoom meeting today.

Here are the guidelines for today.

  1. Listen to the nonfiction book in google classroom about sea turtles. They are an example of something that is living.
  2. Write about what you learned about sea turtles and draw a picture. Use this frame for writing.

Morning Message 5-14-2020

Good Morning Room 18 Readers and Families,

Today is Thursday, May 14th. It’s not sunny where I live. I like the sunshine. How about you?

I will send out the invitation to our Friday Zoom meeting a little later today and I hope you can all make it. I know it’s not the same as being in the classroom together, but it’s wonderful to see you all.

We are getting close to the end of the school year and you are doing a great job persevering. Remember we learned in school that to persevere you keep going and never give up!

Here are the guidelines for today’s learning.

  1. Read to self/read in raz kids. Mr. Dunn-Ruiz mentioned raz kids during the morning assembly and it’s a way to have access to books that you can read now and throughout the summer.
  2. Listen to Froggy Gets a Doggy in google classroom. Write about a pet you would like and tell me why you would like that pet.
  3. Read or have someone read the 3d passage on the web page and answer the questions.
  4. Math- work in your math book or work on Happy Numbers. Make up your own story problem using classmates’ names.
  5. Exercise and play.

Today is Wednesday May 13th. The sun is shining again where I live. We have two zoom meetings today, one with Mr. Dunn-Ruiz and the whole school and the other with our class at 10. Remember to bring your sharing and remember that when one person is talking, we are listening. I will read you a story during our zoom meeting. Looking forward to seeing you!

Here are the guidelines for today.

  1. Attend the zoom meetings
  2. Read to self/raz kids
  3. Listen to a read a loud from the google classroom. Write about why you liked it. Would you recommend it to a friend? Why? Why not?
  4. Work in Happy Numbers or your math book.
  5. Exercise and play. Go noodle or go for a walk with a family member if you can.

Morning message 5-12-2020

Good Morning Room 18 Readers and Families,

Today is Tuesday, May 12th and although the sun is shining, it’s a little bit cooler where I live.

We will be having our zoom meeting at 10 a.m. tomorrow and I will send out the invitation today. Thank you to everyone who has joined google classroom as I will continue to post readalouds there. However, this morning I have also posted half of a story called Ordinary Mary’s Extraordinary Deed. I’ve been trying to upload this for several days now and was finally successful this morning.

Here are the guidelines for today.

1.Read to self/read with raz kids.

  1. In google classroom read is it alive and listen to the readaloud Over on The Farm.
  2. Write about your favorite animal from Over on The Farm and tell me the number associated with it in the book. Tell me why you like that animal. Draw a picture to go with your writing.
  3. Happy Numbers math or work in your math book.
  4. Exercise and play time.
