Welcome to Mr. Auad's Teacher Page

Hello!  Hope everyone is doing well!  Just wanted to make note about the lessons linked below.  Kindergarten students will know how to complete the writing portion of the writing lessons (by sounding out and writing words and sentences).  TK students can tell their care giver their stories and ideas, and can have help with writing their words.  Help them by sounding out simple, three letter words.  Making sure they pay close attention to the beginning letter sound.  Spelling does not need to be correct, as long as they write the sounds that they hear.

If you did not receive a 'Interactive Math Homework Book' during conferences, they will be available for pickup tomorrow, Thursday, 3/19, between 10:00-12:00.

Please stay well, and I miss you all!

In fact, I am one of the inaugural TK teachers since the program’s inception. I believe that TK/Kindergarten is one of the most important grades, as it lays a foundation for students to succeed.

Grumpy Cat by Britta Teckentrup

Meet Grump Cat, he is not having a good day. Watch to see who cheers Grumpy Cat up, and if he makes a new friend. Monday, May 11 Post

Hello Room 16 Students and Families!

I hope you all had a nice weekend and a happy Mother's Day!  Welcome back and happy Monday!

Two videos today.  We continue with our pattern lessons as we identify and make increasingly difficult patterns.  We have one more pattern lesson after today's lesson.  Our story today is the last Mr. Panda story, "Thank You, Mr. Panda" by Steve Antony.  Make sure you watch to the end of the story for the writing prompt.

Over the last couple of days  I have been spotlighting websites that I introduced at the beginning of distance learning.  Today's site is PBS Kids.  Look for the link on the class webpage and in our Google Classroom.  In class, the students enjoyed watching Clifford the Big Red Dog on rainy days.  I noticed that PBS Kids has a Clifford show, though slightly different from the one we watched in class.

The school district has launched a parent tech support email.  I will post the link on this page, in the google classroom, and within this blog.  Hopefully this will help with the tech problems I have not been able to diagnosis and fix.

Thank You to all the parents who continue to share their child's work with me, I really appreciate it!  I always like to see what the students are completing.

Today's Goals

1. watch the pattern video and make your own pattern
2. watch the story video and complete the writing prompt
3. watch a show on PBS Kids, maybe you can tell me your favorite show and why
4. spend some time with the Raz-Kids reading program
5. spend some time with the Happy Numbers Math program
6. complete an exercise from the Go Noodle website

Wishing you all a nice day!
-Mr. Auad

Pattern Lesson #2

Join me as we learn to identify and make two new patterns. The AABB pattern and the AAB pattern. Remember, if you become confused or stuck while making your pattern, say the pattern out loud until you reach the part where you had trouble. Speaking the pattern often makes it clearer and easier to understand. Good luck!

Thank You, Mr. Panda by Steve Antony

Our last Mr Panda story! Mr. Panda is out delivering gifts to his friends. What is in the presents, and will his friends appreciate the gifts? Watch and listen to find out. Your writing prompt today is: Tell me about your most favorite gift you received and why you enjoyed it so much. Thanks for watching!

Friday, May 8 Post

Hello Room 16 Students and Families!

Happy Friday to all!  If you are reading this before 10:00 am, I hope to see you at our Friday Zoom get together.  Please check your email for the invitation I sent yesterday.

It's Friday, so that means today's video will be the next lesson in our Second Step series.  We are going to continue where we left off last week, with problem solving skills and strategies.  We look at another difficult situation, and role play a solution.  As the Kindergarteners enter First Grade, these skills will become useful as they enter a larger school environment.  If you missed the first two Second Step lessons, they are located in the Room 16 Google Classroom.  I will be reading our next Donald Crews story during our Zoom Meeting.

I am including a link today that I discussed way back at the beginning of distance learning.  I wanted to call your attention to it again.  It is the Jack Hartmann Youtube channel.  I will also post the link in the Google Classroom (under the resource topic), where if you have not joined, I encourage it!

We will continue with our pattern lessons on Monday.

Today's Goals

1. attend our classroom Zoom meeting
2. watch the Second Step video, and ask your parents something you can do to help them this weekend.
3. practice drawing a pattern on a piece of paper (demonstrated on our Zoom meeting)
4. watch a video or two on the Jack Hartmann Youtube channel
5. spend some time with the Raz-Kids reading program
6. spend some time with the Happy Numbers math program
7. Wish your Mom a Happy Mother's Day!!

Wishing you all a nice weekend!

Second Step Lesson #3 Problem Solving Continued

Samantha has a problem. She wants to join in with a group of kids who are playing, but does not know how. Let us help her find a solution to her problem. Remember, when you have a problem: First, say the problem. Second, think of a solution. Also, remember your calming down strategies. Puppy and snail are also here to say hi to you!

Hello Room 16 Students and Families!

I hope you are all doing well!  A big thank you to all the families for helping your child with their work at home.  I know it is not always easy, and I really appreciate it!

Two videos today.  We start a series of lessons on identifying and making patterns.  Our first pattern today, is an easy AB pattern.  After watching the video, maybe you can make your own AB pattern at home.  Our next video is the story, "Curious George Plays Baseball" by Margret and H.A.Reyes.  For your writing prompt today, I would like you to tell me your favorite sport and why.

Please check your email later today for our next Zoom meeting invitation.  I was very encouraged with how many families were able to log in, and look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

I also encourage families to join the Room 16 Google classroom.  We had a few more families join yesterday.  The Google classroom will give you access to over 50 videos and resources, along with videos that have not been posted before.  I suggest checking out the SLZUSD Story Time Topic, where you can watch and listen to stories read my another school district teacher.  After watching, there are questions that can be discussed in the description box of the video.  You can leave a comment and tell me which story or lesson is your favorite.

Pattern Lesson #1

Join me as we begin a series of lessons identifying and describing patters. We learn what a pattern is, and how to make an AB pattern. Remember, if you get stuck, say the pattern out loud to help you find what comes next. After watching the video, I encourage you to make your own pattern at home. You can draw your pattern, or make it out of objects. Enjoy!

Wednesday, May 6 Post

Hello Room 16 Students and Families!

I hope to see you all at our Room 16 Classroom Zoom meeting this morning.  Check your email for login directions and information.  We will be reading a story and completing a short lesson on plural words, with hopefully some time to share out.

Only one video today (as I will be reading a story during our Zoom meeting).  This is an important video, describing a few reading strategies the students can use to help them decode and read increasingly difficult books, especially when working with the Raz-Kids reading program.  I recommend watching this video more than once.

Also, another link today, this one to the Oakland Zoo.  Though not as exciting as the Monterey Bay Aquarium (no live cams), it does follow up on the 'living/nonliving theme' discussed on yesterdays' link.  Please check it out, there are also a few art projects that you may find interesting.  I will also post this link in the Google Classroom under the Science topic.

A reminder to join our Google Classroom, the directions on how are included in our May 4 post.  Did you know you can comment on Google Classroom posts? Maybe write a comment on your favorite video.

Please don't forget to give the Happy Numbers Math program a try too!

Reading Strategies

Watch as we learn about a few important reading strategies. You may want to use these strategies when completing the reading lessons in Raz-Kids. I hope you find this helpful!
